It has been many years, a little over 48 to be exact, since
George has been authorized to salute the flag. One had to be in uniform with a
hat to salute the flag until a couple of years ago when flag etiquette was
changed. At Cove Fort we flew the flag at half-mast until noon. At noon we all
stopped what we were doing and placed our hands over our hearts and those who
had served in the military saluted the flag while it was being raised to full
mast in honor of Memorial Day.
